Session 1 - Freebootin’ and New Boot Goofin’ in the Witherwild
The campaign opens on the eve of the full moon, Morn, Day 2 of the Day Cycle, fifty years after the Maiming of the great owl deity Nikta. In that defining moment, a powerful archmage from Haven tore away Nikta’s Reaping Eye, leaving the god with only their Sowing Eye. From this act emerged the Age of Eternal Spring, an unending season that reshaped Fanewick and gave rise to the Witherwild.
In the city of Merylsward, Thalyn, Torbin, Luigi, Xiacalat, Malgi, and Saib are brought together and introduced to Kerry, the formidable liaison of Lord Emeris, one of the city’s most influential figures. Towering at over eight feet tall, Kerry is not to be trifled with—communicating through hard glances and decisive action. Rumors persist that Kerry bears a sealed third eye, though it has yet to open, as far as anyone can tell.
The group is formally organized as a war party and charged with investigating Havenite activity at a long-abandoned druidic circle known as Hadar’s Table, located in the Trees Spire near Merylsward. Intelligence indicates the Havenites intend to open a portal there. Such an act would be extraordinary: fewer than ten individuals in all of Fanewick are believed capable of creating a portal. Lord Emeris believes this is a calculated move to bypass the otherwise impassable terrain of the Witherwild, allowing Havenite troops and siege equipment to be positioned directly against Merylsward.
Before setting out, the war party rests and gathers what information they can about the site. They learn that Hadar’s Table is named for the druid Hadar, whose deeds have been lost to history but whose name endures in tales of ancient battles and forbidden rites. The location is widely regarded as dangerous and steeped in old power.
Most concerning, the Havenite faction currently operating at Hadar’s Table is attempting to open a portal not merely across distance, but to an alternate Fanewick. Their aim is to spread the serpent sickness beyond their own plane of existence, believing that its expansion will ultimately lead to the resurrection of their long-dead serpent god.
With preparations complete and the danger understood, the war party sets out toward Hadar’s Table, stepping into the Witherwild with the fate of Merylsward—and perhaps all of Fanewick—at stake.
